  Teacher's Day Special
TEACHERS DAY IN INDIA

Since times immemorial, Indians have respected and idolized their teachers. Earlier, we used to call our teachers 'Guru' and now it's the contemporary 'Sir' or 'Madam'. Nevertheless, the role of teachers has remained the same. They were, are and will continue to be our guiding light, creating conditions conducive to our overall development. We will always be thankful to them for their constructive support. It is as an expression of this gratitude only that we celebrate Teacher's Day in India.

Teacher's Day is a tribute to the hard work and devotion of the teachers all year long, to educate a child. In India, teacher’s day is celebrated on 5th of September every year. Indian Teacher’s Day is dedicated to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was a zealous advocate of education and one of the greatest scholars and teachers of all times, apart from being the first Vice President and the second President of India. As a mark of respect to this phenomenal teacher, his birthday came to be observed as Teacher’s Day in the country.

On Teacher's day, students across India dress up as their teachers and take lectures in classes that are assigned to the teachers they represent. Sometimes, teachers sit in their classes as students, trying to relive the time when they, themselves, were students. Also, functions are organized in schools on the special day, where students present dance performances, dramas, and various other programs to entertain their teachers. This day provides for a healthy interaction between teachers and students as well.

A Teacher for All Seasons
A teacher is like Spring,
Who nurtures new green sprouts,
Encourages and leads them,
Whenever they have doubts.
A teacher is like Summer,
Whose sunny temperament
Makes studying a pleasure,
Preventing discontent.
A teacher is like Fall,
With methods crisp and clear,
Lessons of bright colors
And a happy atmosphere.
A teacher is like Winter,
While it’s snowing hard outside,
Keeping students comfortable,
As a warm and helpful guide.
Teacher, you do all these things,
With a pleasant attitude;
You’re a teacher for all seasons,
And you have my gratitude!

The Best Teachers
Teachers open up young minds,
showing them the wonders of the intellect
and the miracle
of being able to think for themselves.
A teacher exercises
the mental muscles of students,
stretching and strengthening,
so they can make challenging decisions,
find their way in the world,
and become independent.
The best teachers care enough
To gently push and prod students
to do their best
and fulfill their potential.
You are one of those.
Thank you.

Thank You, Teacher
Thank you, skillful teacher,
For teaching me to be
A stronger, smarter person,
Academically.
Thank you, favorite teacher
For acting like a friend,
And taking time to show me,
Lessons hard to comprehend.
Thank you for your caring
And lots of other stuff;
For all the things you gave me,
I can’t thank you enough.

[A Teacher’s role in the success of a student]

A little girl

You came to me as a child
Untouched by worldly ways
You reached just till my knees
A blank look, no care
I still remember you to this day
You walked in an uneasy gait
You sobbed and sobbed
Tears rolling down your face
Your wilful spirit slipped away
You neither smiled nor swayed
To the music I played
You left the home where
You were known and loved
You came to my world-
A different world
A little girl you came my way

I felt sad, I felt helpless
In the corner you stood alone
No joy, no happiness
I sang a song but to no avail
For my mind was with you
I reasoned it out
Patience and faith I sought
I knew each child is unique
Some can’t walk, some can’t talk
But you were special
I always had a smile for you
Encouraged you
Boosted your spirits
With little jokes and small play
A little girl you came my way

Time passed, days went by
And then one fine day
You smiled, a pretty smile
That was the day I knew
I had won the game!
I wrote a note
Your mom was ecstatic
It was a day to celebrate
There was spring in your step
The sun was up again
The fun was there to stay
A little girl you came my way

Many seasons went by
With just memories by my side
Till one day you came along to see me
My sagging spirits, my aging bones
You a spirited girl, a girl of fast paced tones
Waiting to fly away to foreign shores
You thanked me for holding your little hand
And opening the world’s outside doors
You made it big, made me proud
a star shining in true light
Farewell to thee from a teacher
Who played a role
A small role nevertheless
Along the journey of your success
A little girl you came my way
